Undefined Length of Time Vacation - Day One
So today was the first day of my "undefined length of time vacation"...A.K.A. My first day without a job in years and years and years!
I'd have to say it was a complete success. Energized for new, for the time being, stress free life...I woke up and headed straight to the gym. I am in full fledged "Operation: Work off my Work Fat". I'm no longer allowed to ride outside alone (since I keep falling and hurting myself), so I'm going to the gym every morning for indoor spinning.
After my spin class, I went back home to check on the Peakenator...and then headed out to borders, where I decided to buy a new cookbook to add to the plans for dinner tongiht. The theme for tonight's dinner was: Turkish Food
With a Mixture of my collected recipes and my new cookbook, I made the following dishes for Turkish Dinner night:
-Mercemek Corbasi (Lentil Soup)
-Turkish Cucumber and Tomato Salad
-Kofte (Turkish Meatballs, grilled)
-Manti (Meat dumplings w/ a garlic yogurt sauce, drizzled with other spices)
Apparently, this is an odd combination of foods, but it seemed to go well when we ate it...and everyone liked it...It was also my first time making Manti (again, thanks to the new cookbook)...My next attempt I'm hoping I can perfect the dish.

Tomorrow's Dinner Theme is: Korean/Japanese Food Night
On the menu:
-Edemame
-Sticky Rice
-Kim-chee (if Lee's has it by tomorrow...they didn't today)
-Homemade Gyoza (that's my project for tomorrow)
-Bulgogee (Thinly sliced, sweetly marinated beef)
Wednesday night's dinner theme - Unknown. Will probably switch to scrapbooking instead of cookin' hehehehe!

Love/Hate Relationship
So I am having a love/hate relationship with my new bike. I LOVE it...It's super lightweight, and fast!!! It has the cutest little bell on it that I ring every chance I get...
Now the hate of it...Let's back up a minute. My previous bike...a mountain bike, that I got in Junior High? High schoo;...has been SOOO good to me. I have been riding that bike for at the VERY least 13 years...probably more like 18 years...but all great things must come to an end...and Seymen's road bike was just too fast for me to keep up with...so I decided to upgrade. The only thing wrong with my mountain bike functionality wise is the front break doesn't work...
Well...now that you know the history of my Mountain bike...back to my new Hybrid bike ;-). I've owned it for almost 2 weeks now. I've fallen off and injured myself twice now.
1st Accident
Location: Monroe Ave and Clover Street
Time: 5:30PM on a Wednesday. (Rush hour traffic on Monroe Ave)
Description: Beth is standing at the light. Light turns green. Beth starts to fall forward. Beth grabs her brake to stop the forward movement. Beth falls face first onto Monroe Ave. Bike handles knock the wind out of her as she topples over the front of her bike.
2nd Accident
Location: Pittsford Canal Path (in front of the Delmonte Hotel)
Time: 8:00PM Saturday
Description: Beth is riding along, happily singing to her country music on her MP3 player. Headphones only in left ear, so she can hear bikepath noises/traffic. Beth rides through a wall of gnats. Gnat gets stuck in Beth's right ear. Beth shakes head trying to get gnat out of ear. Beth hits brakes to stop to get bug out of ear. Beth blacks out as she flys off her bike and skids her face along the bike path.
Common Theme between injury 1 and 2: BETH TOUCHES HER FRONT BRAKES
I was beginning to think that maybe the Mountain Bike Gods are pouring their wrath upon me for ditching my old bike...Then I realized...It's because I have a functioning front break that I keep flying over my handle-bars with no warning! :-)
So, that in a nutshell (well, maybe not quite a nutshell) is why I now have a love/hate relationship with my new bike.
Ohh yeah, and my cute little bell fell off and it's broken now, from this last fall :-((( Booooo hoooo!!

Long Awaited Update
Well I've been horrible about actually blogging lately. I've been trying to keep up with picture posting, but I haven't written anything of consequence in a while...
So I've been pretty busy trying to make the most of out of the great summer weather. I've been biking around Rochester like crazy. I'm pretty partial to a daily 12 mile ride from my house to Pittsford and back on the bike path...but occasionally, I'll go the other direction and head towards Greece. That is also around 12 miles from my house to Long Pond...but so far every time I've done that ride, I've always gotten a ride home ;-)
Last weekend I went and bought a new bike. It's a hybrid, but alot closer to a road bike than my old mountain bike :-). I LOVE it. It's soooo wonderful! I can go much faster and longer because the bike is so light and the tires are much skinnier. I am constently looking for excuses to ride my bike somewhere.

I've also had my first fall...which coiencidentially happened on my 2nd ride on my new bike. I wasn't even riding...but just standing on the street. My pedel got stuck on the curb. I ended up falling forward on my face in the street. Hehehe. I am a bit cut up and bruised but nothing serious. My knee took the brunt of the fall and is now a lovely shade of red/purple/yellow.
I'm trying to pick up my cake decorating again too. Here's one of the first desserts that I've made this summer. It's a brownie-3-tiered cake with royal frosting and powered sugar decrations. In about a week, my contract at work will be ending, so I am sure to be experimenting with some new cake recipies I have on hand, while I'm on an extended vacation!
