Thursday already?!

It's Thursday already?!? This week has gone by really fast. Probably because I've had a lot to do at work, and alot to do at night. Last night I went to our family friend's house for dinner. They've been living in SJ for 7 years now. So they were giving me tons of tips of places that I should go visit when I come here :-) There is ALOT to do in the area! I'm very surprised!!!

Oh and I finally saw my first grocery store! I've been looking all week, and so for unsuccessful in finding one to buy them flowers/wine. Unfortunately, I didn't find them until AFTER I had dinner with them...but I guess it's the thought that counts. :-)

So, tonight maybe having drinks with co-workers, and Friday night I'm going to a co-workers house to spend the night and go out on the town ;-) Should be fun! Especially getting up at 4AM and driving back to SJ to catch my 6:30AM flight. WAHOO!

Good Night's Sleep!

Wow! So it's AMAZING what a good night's sleep can do for you. Last night I was EXHAUSTED! The class that we were taking was 100% emotinally and physically draining. And after having drinks with a co-worker, I had to come back to the hotel room and prepare a presentation for today, and create supporting PPT slides. Well I finished all of that by 9:30 PST, and was in bed sleeping by 9:35 PST! I slept so well that I had some really crazy crazy dreams...but this morning I felt refreshed and ready to finish up the class.

Well, the presentation this afternoon went so much better than the previous ones yesterday. I actually made it through my entire presentation without saying UM...or So...and I didn't even tear up at all :-) My co-workers said that my preso today was like night and day from my first preso yesterday.

I felt like this was a huge accomplishment for myself, considering, whenever I get up in front of a group of people, I turn red, start shaking, and my voice wavers. Also, considering that I dropped and never again considered taking any Mass Communication/Public speaking courses in college! (Probably I should have taken those classes ;o) becuase WOW. This course made a HUGE impact on my life!!! (I think it did at least!)

So anyway, tonight...I'm not doing anything other than laying in bed and watching back episodes of Men in Trees. I hope to make it through one episode before I crash in complete exhaustion! :-)

Communicating with Confidence

OMG...so today has been one of the most nerve wracking days of my life. So much so, that I had to complete the day with two glasses of wine!! We are taking a course at work for Communicating with Confidence. It has been an excellent class so far, but has put me so far out of my comfort zone...I was actually tearing up and trying so hard not to cry because I felt that I was failing so badly, WHILE presenting!!

But anyway, they have been coaching us, by taping and providing feedback on our presentation skills. There were five exercises today where we had to stand up in front of the group and present on a topic. I did OK...I am stuck on filler words...like: "Ummm..." and "And..." and "So..." I tried SOOO hard not to use them, but they just kept popping out. I've been using words like that for so long that it's second nature.

But through all of that, it had been a really good experience and I feel like, I might possibly be improving. Although, not as much as my co-workers, but still making some improvements. Hopefully by tomorrow (after a GOOD NIGHT's SLEEP) I will be better. Between the jet-lag and my nerves being shot by 9AM! I'm a wreck ;-)

Anyway, I'm off to ordering room service, watching TV, and writing a presentation for class tomorrow. Thank goodness I have the night off. It seems that I have booked myself for something, every other night this week :-) YEAYYY!!!

Chevy HHR?

So I made it to San Jose late last night. By the time we landed I was soooooooo tired and completely jelouse of Seymen because he was half asleep when I called to check in. ;-) I still had to get my bags and take the shuttle to the rental car place!

Anyway, I finally got my rental car...they gave me a Chevy HHR. I"ve never heard of it before. It's a very Odd Looking car. Kind of like the PT Cruiser, but boxier...but the inside is really nice :-) And the seat is completely adjustable, so I don't get that weird leg shaking thing, like I do with most rental cars.

So, I took the highway to my hotel last night. I completely missed this Major street in SJ last time I was here, that my hotel is on (Great American Parkway). I am staying at the Hyatt instead of the Marriot this trip (which is much better. I like this hotel alot more...and it has FREE PARKING and is closer to Cisco) Anyway, I'm driving down the road and this road is seriously where all the big companies are housed...Netgear, AMD, Citrix, and many more :-) I guess it's just weird to me because I come from Rochester, with noting that big except Kodak/Xerox...and definitely nothing new :-)

Just when I was feeling sooo lonely this week, my friends pulled through :-) I now have 5 people meeting with me for lunch :-) I have the warm fuzzies right now :-)

San Jose

So I'm going to San Jose on Sunday for the week. It's a longer trip this time, as I'm staying until Saturday! In an effort to keep myself a little busy, I have contacted some old family friends that live in the area. I am going to have dinner with them on Wednesday night...and tuesday night I have a dinner planned with my team. It'll be really good to have something to do at night (other than sitting my hotel room eating room service all alone ;-)). I told Seymen yesterday, that maybe he would want to come to San Jose with me :-) But he declined, saying he wouldn't want to be like me all day, working all alone.

So I don't know...maybe it's that I've been isolated in my house for the past three weeks, but I think I'm unnatrually excited to to go SJ.

On a side note, I think there is an empty void in our lives now that we have caught up with House, to the regularly aired episodes. There is a new episode of house on Tuesday night...I was feeling depressed because I was going to miss it due to my team dinner, but Seymen is busy that night too...so we are going to wait and watch it together when I get home. Phewwww. I was gonna be jelouse if he saw it without me ;-) hehehehe. So, I've started getting myself addicted to October Road. I kind of like it! Although, I'm really not into getting obsessed with another show...but to fill the space of House, it's not so bad...and the story is good. Seymen hates it ;-)

Mom and the WII

So my mom and sister came over for dinner last night. We were celebrating because my sister and Jake bought a house!! When my mom was leaving, Seymen made her play a match of tennis on the WII :-) She was so funny :-) But she did really good! We did a best of 3 tennis match.

So, the next thing that we have to do is bring the WII over to Chrissy and Jake's so we can test it out on their big TV. But then again, maybe we shouldn't do that...because then we'll feel so sad bringing the WII back to our tiny TV.

We've also decided that we need to make a better WII playing area...because we keep almost hitting each other, or the furniture...and the rug keeps bunching up when we play. I was "training" last night, and Seymen said the living room looked like a tornado :-)

So, I can't tell if I am sore from playing the WII, or if I am sore from removing wall paper from the walls. I'm thinking it's a combination of both...But on Sunday night, I officially removed the very last of all the wallpaper that we are removing. I was hoping to get the hallways painted this week before I go out of town, but the way my evenings are working out, I'm not going to have much chance :-(

WE are WII Owners!

Happy Early Birthday to Seymen! I tracked down the WII (with the help of my friend Chad) and bought the system for Seymen's birthday. Unfortunately, I was too excited about it to keep it a secret, and he was too excited to have it in the house and not play it until his birthday, so we broke it out TODAY :-)

Red Paint is DONE!

So I finally finished painting the red, repainting the trim, and painting the ceiling where I hit it with the red ;-)

Last night after work, I was feeling motivated so I taped the walls and re-painted the trim where there were red marks. I did one coat of KILZ so the red wouldn't bleed through the white paint. I was so pleased with the look of it when I finished. I went to the kitchen to wash my paint brush so I could finish up the white. Well, on my way back down the stairs, I slipped on the drop cloth and fell down the stairs. I managed land on the small of my back mainly, and on my right arm. OMG it hurt so much that I almost threw up. Then I just laid on the floor in so much pain. I decided to get up and get my phone to call Seymen at work, but when I got up everything started blurring and my hearing got all foggy, and I started seeing bright spots. So I grabbed the phone and laid back down on the floor.

Well as it turned out, I was fine. My sister called right at the moment when Seymen hung up with me. She said that I probably just had the wind knocked out of me. She made me stand up and walk around while we were on the phone, and the fainting feeling went away. Seymen had rushed home because he thought I almost died...but when he saw that I was OK he had to go back to work and pack up his computer. Serves him right for working late on a friday night ;-) hehehe, now he can never trust that I won't kill myself doing a project at home alone while he's working late ;-) hehehee.

Anyway, after all that pain, I am FINALLY DONE with the front entrance!!! Here's some pictures...and NOW, I am ALLOWED to start painting the BATHROOM!!! After that, we can finally start decorating our place too :-) Phewww!!!

Ohh and one other thing...My sister and Jake are seriously looking at houses in Irondequoit. I'm really sad. I've been depressed about it all week now...that she's moving so far away from me. When I talked to her on Friday, I told her that she was being really selfish to move so far away from me ;-) hehehe. She quickly retorted: Well then what does that make YOU for moving all the way to TEXAS without me! :-) But I really am sad that they are moving so much further from us. It was so nice for the past year being so close to each other...But I am VERY EXCITED for them :-) And now we have just one more place to DECORATE and stuff ;-)

Meatloaf Night

So my older sister gave me this AWESOME recipie for meatloaf. I decided to try it out last night. It was DELICIOUS! I ended up with a FULL course meal that took me NO time to make. Meatloaf, garlic mashed pototates, steamed brocolli, and cesar salad. I thought for sure I would have leftovers after using 2 lbs of beef! but with 5 people eating we have just one tiny slice and one last serving of potatoes left. It was awesome :-)

That being said, I totally haven't made any progress on painting the last coat of paint. Tuesday night I had to work until 7 and then Seymen lured me to Shiki with Nate and Maki (where we ran into Alex and Cathy!)...Last night I made dinner and had company over...so that was out...TONIGHT is going to be the night. Seymen is going out with work friends, so I am going to be ALONE with NO DISTRACTIONS and can finally finish the 4th coat of paint...(Hopefully!!!) The plan is, once it's dry (by Saturday) I will put up more painters tape and go to town re-painting the trim and the ceiling where I had those: "Ohhhh #%$&*@^#%$!!! SON OF A....!(@&$^@%$%@^@" moments...apparently I had a lot of them... ;-) hehehehehe!

HELLO Spring! (For two days)

So we've had spring for two days now! It's been WONDERFUL! Unfortunately, it's supposed to snow tonight :-( Booooooo! But anyway, the chair that has been frozen to our deck all winter finally came unstuck yesterday. All of the snow melted off the deck so last night after dinner, Seymen and I sat outside and had a glass of wine. It was a perfect spring evening...looking out on the backyard, covered in snow ;-)

So my plan is to make complete use of the warm weather. Tonight I am going to go get my car washed inside and out, get gas, and go to wegmans BEFOREEE it gets cold again. I'm planning ahead dude!!! :-)

HOUSE VS. SEYMEN

So I was inspired this weekend and decided to get my hair cut. I was feeling so sick of seeing paint stuck in the ends of my hair, so I decided to have it chopped off ;-). I went to my hairdresser and he gave me a "Fresh" "Stylish" haircut :-). I now even have semi-bangs for the first time since 6th grade! ;-) But it actually does look nice, I think :-)

Let's see...So, Friday night was a fun/sad night. It was Elvie's going away party. She's moving to Long Island with her fiancee. We celebrated her dinner at Tokyo Restuarant and spent the evening there, eating probably everything on the menu. Afterwards, Seymen and I headed home so we could get our daily dose of House, MD. (Yup we're totally obsessed with the show!)

So, House. OMG! It's the best show ever. We have been watching it nightly for about a month now. We both love it and just can't stop laughing. I woke Seymen up on Saturday morning, to me watching House (because I fell asleep friday night to our episode...) We then snuck one more episode in before we got up for our cleaning spree! At some point in the afternoon, we stopped everything and wachted one more episode...which was a good thing because Saturday night after our company left, we both fell alseep 5 minutes into an episode. We ended up passing out with the light on, and slept like that until 6AM!

So last night, (still obsessed with House), we went to Mom's for dinner. We were again discussing House and how much we like it. Then we moved onto the fun trials of homeownership. Seymen was sharing his "big win" of the weekend with the house. (He bought a 90 degree angle saw bit and was able to drill a hole between a support beam and the concrete foundation, so he can wire our office with Ethernet, Cable and Phone lines.) Anyway, he decided he's having is very own "House" Episode of "HOUSE VS. SEYMEN" So far 4 Points are for the house, and two Points for Seymen. (based on Season 2, Episode #219: House vs. God)

Our Town

Last night my sister and I went to see Our Town at Geva Theater. It was an excellent play, but sad. I cried :-)

ban_ourtown.png

(Description from Geva Website)

The Story: Grover's Corners, New Hampshire in 1901. It’s a place where nothing much and everything important in life happens. The Stage Manager introduces us to some of the hardy and hardworking Yankees who live there as he takes us through a few of the noteworthy moments in their lives: George Gibbs and Emily Webb for example, who live next door to each other, go to school together, fall in love, get married and have a family. Their neighbors in Grover's Corners do pretty much the same thing. Sometimes they notice the fleeting beauty of their lives but mostly they don’t. Just like us. Their town is our town.

The Experience: If you think you already know Our Town, you might be surprised. What Wilder crafted is a simple journey that builds to an awe-inspiring, powerful shared experience in the theatre –real sentiment without being sentimental.

The Buzz: Thornton Wilder won three Pulitzers, and is the only writer ever to win a Pulitizer both for drama and fiction. His plays and novels have been adapted into operas and films, and Our Town is one of the most frequently performed plays ever written, as remarkable today as when it premiered in 1938. This marks Geva’s first production of the play.

“Beautiful and remarkable, one of the sagest, warmest and most deeply human scripts to have come out of our theatre. . . . A spiritual experience.”New York Post

“No American play describes more powerfully how we imagine ourselves.”New York Daily News

Before and After Shots

Taking from Dave's great idea, I've added before and after shots of the front entrance and the living room...Actually the front entrance is a "DURING" shot, because I only was able to do 1 coat of red last night before I passed out in exhaustion ;-) So more to come when it's actually done. I think it need about 3 more coats on it ;-) I am sure it'll look MUCHHHH better later, than it does in these pictures ;-)

Florida, Kareoke, Painting

So I have returned from my first staff meeting. We all met in North Beach, Miami. It was a great time, I definitely learned alot, and enjoyed meeting everyone on my team. My hotel room was PHENOMINAL! It was like an apartment! I had a full kitchen, Living room/dining room area, bedroom w/ king size bed, and a huge bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and seperate shower! Ohh and a little deck that looked on both the beach, the city, and construction of the building next to it ;-)

Anyway, I made it home late Friday night...like 12ish. I had two really nice flights though because on a whim, I decided to upgrade to business class for the flights since it was REALLY CHEAP!! So, flying from Atlanta to Rochester, I had a nice glass of wine, and then fell asleep for the rest of the ride. It was such a good sleep that I didn't wake up until the plane landed in Rochester. I love sleeping like that on the plane.

So, we didn't do much Friday night other than go to bed and watch one episode of House M.D. Saturday I went to my sisters and watched "Hotel Rowanda" OMG. After crying my eyes out, I went home to hang out with Peakers, and then we had dinner with Chrissy and Jake. Afterwards, they came over and we drank wine and played Balderdash. To make the game more fun and interesting ;-) we broke out the Kareoke Machine. So, we all took turns being the announcer, and playing music while people answered the questions :-) It turned out to be a really fun, and hilarious time. I did a solo of a Frank Sanatra song, which was so horrible, that everyone banned me from Kareoke...that is after Jake took a video ;-).

So yesterday I decided that I needed to be productive on the house. Seymen gave me an edict that I can't decorate/paint the bathroom until we finish the front entrance way...SOOOOO, I pulled out the ladders, my buckets, and painting clothes and got to work. I finished removing the wallpaper paste from two walls, I spackeled every little dent/hole in the walls, and then I primed the walls with Pink :-) in preparation for our RED paint :-) Tonight after work, I will be painting the trim...priming with Kilz and then painting it white. My hope is that I can have the entire hallway painted before Friday :-) We'll see if that happens :-)
