My Dad

My dad and step-mom recently retired from their jobs. They are completely different people. I don't think I've ever seen my dad so stress free in his life. He is always talking, telling a story, or telling me how something is done, or how it works (in very minute detail too...and what I say minute detail, I mean down to the gear level ;-). I've seen him two nights in a row. Today I stopped by after work to pick up a box that I left there. He was painting the deck, so I sat out there with him and we talked for about 2 hours. (He wouldn't let me help paint, at most I was allowed to get him a soda with ice and point out the spots that he missed.) Then Seymen came over and he was distracted talking to Seymen...so I snuck in and started to paint. :-) He actually let me do an entire wall section...and only stopped me once to give me a lesson in the proper paintbrush-holding methodology. You see it's all in the wrist. Save your arm. Hold it like a fork. hehehehe...

Anyway, it was a really nice "Father/Daughter" bonding moment. It's been a while since we've had one of those, and now I know many tips and tricks about painting, how to store my paint, how to ensure you have the right amount of paint on the brush, the difference between stain and paint, latex-based versus water-based paint...etc. :-)
