Happy Birthday Maki!!!

Today is Maki's birthday!!!! We had a special surprise birthday party and Shiki for her. See the pics :-)

It was a total success! Maki was so surprised! (As you can see in the pictures) Anyway, it was a great night. We all met at Shiki, Minako hid in the kitchen and then Seymen brought Maki over. Minako jumped out with the cake and we all had a delicious dinner :-) It was so fitting to celebrate with Maki and Shiki. Uni-san was there and Tanaka-san made an AWESOME, really beautiful dessert plate(s) in honor of Maki's birthday :-) I think she was really happy and surprised.

Anyway, it was a great day :-) I'm so glad that Maki enjoyed her birthday and that I didn't spill the surprise ahead of time. I LOVE YOU MAKI!! I'm going to miss you so much when you move to NJ...but the memories of your last birthday in Rochester will be good ones :-)

1 Day to Go!

There's only one more day to go! Tomorrow night at 6:00PM, I will pick up my new car!!!! I did it! I bought the RAV4! :-) I'm so excited. I can't wait to go pick it up. I feel like 6:00PM is going to take so long to come.

So, other than that, with the weekend update...We had a nice but busy weekend. Friday night, I somehow convinced Seymen and Maki that they needed to go with me to get our cars washed, inside and out and oil changes. After driving a caravan of cars into Delta Sonic, we headed downtown for a quick drink with some of their work buddies. It quickly turned into a pig out on bar food fest, and we headed home so I could watch my last two discs of desperate housewives. :-))) I was so hooked that I stayed up until 1AM watching the first disc, and woke up at 8AM to watch the 2nd. By 10AM I was done :-)

Saturday night we had an RIT reunion with the guys from Seymen's sophmore year floor. Three out of the guys on his floor (he was an RA) are engaged and getting married this year!! We had much to discuss over dinner, and then proceeded to have a Mario Party 7 Tourney. Seymen and I went to best buy to get 2 new controllers (two of ours were going bad) and Mario party 7. They had an awesome deal where for the price of those three items regularly, we could get 2 controllers, mario party 7, and a whole new game cube! So we bought it because it was such a deal ;-) Now we have two!!! Seymen and I are still duking it out, who gets to have it in their bedroom ;-) I personally think it would be AWESOMEEEEE to play The Sims from my BED!!! :-)

Anyway, that's my deal. It's a busy week this week. Maki's birthday is tomorrow...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAKI!!! Wednesday is the weekly English lesson and then LOST party (at Trina's house this week). No plans that I know of yet for Thursday, but I'm guessing that it'll somehow include me showing off my new car to my sister/parents ;-) hehehe :-)

RAV4 Dream

My dream about owning a RAV4 might come true in the upcoming days. I have found the car that I want, and yesterday we put a mini-deposit down on it, so I can figure all the nitty gritty details out...But for a preview of my CUTEEEEEEEEEE car, here it is:

NEWS FLASH TO BETH: Your Engaged!!

OK, so I just found out today by way of an apology letter that number 1. there's a rumor going around work about me.
2. that I'm engaged
3. that my boyfriend bought me a HUGEEEEEEEE diamond ring and
4. that everyone was making fun of me about my non-existant engagement ring. (DUHHHH! I guess that happens when your NOT ENGAGED!!!!)

I'm SHOCKED! I can't believe that I'm "engaged"...especially since I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT engaged, nor do I WANT to be engaged. I wrote back to the e-mailer and told them Thank you for the apology, but I knew nothing, nor heard anything about this rumor, and FORTUNATELY FOR ME!!! I'm not engaged. :-)

And now I do have to say:
1. I don't think that I would be one to go around blabbing and showing off on the size of my diamond ring. I don't care about that shit. I would actually prefer a new laptop as an engagment present...if anyone starting these rumors knew me, they would know that.
2. How is it ANYONE's business about my personal life. My FRIENDS know stuff about my personal life, but not my team members that I work professionally with. I try to keep the two very seperate.
3. I REALLLLLLYYY need to do a better job of keeping up on the gossip man. I'm the last one to hear ANYTHING around work, even when it's about ME!

Maaan...anyway, I told Seymen that he was engaged too. He was pretty shocked too. But I guess it's not so bad for him ;-) he's now got the rep of buying HUGEEEEEEEE diamond rings, and he didn't have to spend a penny ;-) hehehhehehe...Anyway, just a lesson to all you gossiper's out there...Please get your gossiping facts straight! I am so not engaged nor anywhere close to wanting it, so if your gonna start a rumor, start one like...Beth's buying a new car. That's a more believable one ;-)

Go Figure

I've been sitting at my desk all morning, not getting up because I'm waiting for a phone call from my insurance company. I finally got fed up because they weren't calling, so I got up and when I came back...they had called :-((( So I called back and got their voice mail again. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! This is not a good start to a monday morning. On top of that, I really want to go to Shiki for lunch but I have a "Lunch-time meeting" Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

The New and IMPROVED Beth

We have new teams at work, and our team (which has the most team spirit) has made up a name: "The Andragogs". As a team we have had one of the GDs on the team create a Team Character, and now each team member needs to create a "self-portrait" for the "team photo", using this "tool" that had been floating around work.

Big Steps for a Thursday

Well, I woke up this morning intent on making a difference in my life. So, I got up and went to work...and then I went online and just paid of my car completely. I feel so liberated! No more monthly payment. In just a few short days I will actually own my car. They will send me the title, and then I can merrialy go on my way to finally buy myself the RAV4 with 4x4!!!

Seriously...it's time. I almost died last night. I was driving home from teaching Esra, and the roads were soooooo bad. It was completely white. I couldn't see anything ahead or to the sides. I was concerned for a little bit that I had left the road! Anyway, I finally saw a sign saying I was going the right way. So following very slowly behind some other cars, we slowly made our way up the ramp and around the curve. Since it was soooo snowy and you couldn't see the lines, I was kind of in the middle of the two lanes, as were all the other cars. I was too scared to get over to close to one side because I kept imagining me sliding and falling down to the underpasses and then getting hit by all those cars! Anyway, I was chugging along in 2nd gear and when out of NO WHERE! a huge flat bed tow truck came barreling around the ramp, totally passed me on the right FLYYYYYYYing by me, I totally flipped out. I had to go really close to the edge, and I sware to god I almost slipped off the edge and DIED!!! JERK!!! People seriously don't have ANY respect for poor little tiny cars with no 4x4. I hate that guy. When I finally get a 4x4 truck again, I'm going to be really nice to the little tiny Honda Civics with no tracktion...I'm gonna slow way down and NOT Force them to the side. JERKKKK!!!

Giving it a Try

Thanks for the recommendation Shelly! I've added it to our Netflix queue (#95-99)...I'll let you know in 3-4 months when I finally get it and see it ;-) hehehe :-)

Anyway, just a quick update on life since...umm..yesterday afternoon :-) Seymen had the "day off" yesterday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day...meaning, he made it home by 3PM! He actually called me while I was still at work and offered to take my car to the car wash for me! As nice as that was, I decided to give the dude a break, and declined his offer. See, the night before (Sunday night) we had this great notion that since winter finally started and our cars were getting snow and ice on them, that we'd try this de-icer spray my mom bought us for Christmas. Seymen was so excited to try it out that instead of just spraying it on just our rear view mirrors, he'd do it all over the windshield and the side windows of both of our cars!

Well...Monday morning, I woke up, showered, got dressed, brushed my teeth and headed out to my car. With each step I took, the excitement over the new "de-icer" spray grew inside me. I made it to my car and low and be hold...there was snow on the windows. OK, no problem...It wasn't supposed to MELT the snow...so I started me car, grabbed the snow brush and started wiping the snow off...and then I realized...there was this strange, oil-like film on my car windows!?!? I wiped it more with snow brush...nothin'. It was stuck on there making it even HARDER to see through! OK great! So I'm gonna be late for work, but I figure...no biggie. I'll just hop in my car and do a little windshield wiper spray action...So I press the little controller...Nothing happens. The wipers go and go and go, but no liquid...Darn it! I ran out on Sunday on my drive back from the mall. :-((( So I got back out, grabbed some snow from the ground and wiped it on my windshield...Not really helping much, but I could KIND of see...so I just go in and drove off to work.

10 minutes and 3 near death expierences later I arrived at work...surprisingly in one piece. Unfortunately, I spent the day driving back and forth between the two offices. My friend Jonathan took pity on me (or maybe for fear of his own life) and drove me to lunch @ Shiki. (where we met up with Seymen, Jeff, and Nate, who were all working on their day off) Anyway, after work I finally made the treck to the gas station for wiper fluid, and then to delta sonic for a Super Kiss Car Wash (my favorite! I love it when the blue and red stuff squirts on! It smells so good! I LOVEEEEE the car wash!). When I got out and the car had been all wiped down, I looked out of my now spotlessly clean windshield and almost cried with joy at being able to see SOOOO much of the road! What a concept!!! And then I tried my wiper fluid...and out squirted the lovely cleaner!!

What a wonderful way to end a hard day at work :-) When I arrived at home, and Seymen returned from the gym we decided that it would be a good idea to go grocery shopping. We bought tons of good food! and I finally got a new broom (our old one has been relagated to a corner on the outside deck because Seymen did some brooming of outside stuff which probably included bugs of some kind, so I refused to bring it back into the apartment). We cleaned out the fridge, cleaned out the freezer (even scrubbing off this mysterious sticky yellow crap on the door of the freezer that has been there for at least 2-3 years!) Anyway, it's so liberating having a newly cleaned out fridge and freezer! It feels like a fresh start. I love it. Seymen is always proud of me too when I'm in a throw away mood :-)

So, all in all it was a very productive night. I was pleased with the progress that we made in the cleaning effort of our apartment, and then spent the rest of the night reading a book. Hopefully tonight will be as fun and exciting as last night :-)

Addicted to Desperate Housewives

Hi, my name is Beth and I'm addicted to Desperate Housewives. :-) We received the first of our two Netflix DVDs over the weekend. It was such an exciting moment. I was late leaving for the mall to meet Jena, Danielle, and Jess...Seymen ran to the mailbox, opened it up and pulled out our new DVDs. Waving them triumphantly above his head, Seymen indicated to me that we had received them and that they would be waiting for me when I came home :-) When I arrived at home after my trip to the mall, I popped the first movie in (The Perfect Man) and was able to watch the whole movie before leaving for Romantic Dinner at Rooneys with Maki and Richard. We were only five minutes late, due to some wordrobe issues on Seymen's end. But we finally made it and enjoyed a wonderful dinner! Later that night, we went home and I started watching Desperate Housewives - The first disc of Season 1. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo gooooood. By Sunday afternoon, I had finished the entire disk. I LOVEEEEEEEEEED it. I even watched the pilot over again because it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. I can't wait until Thursday when we should recieve the March of the Pengins and the 2nd disc of the 1st season!! Yipppppeeee!!! Last night, Seymen added his movies to the queue too...we now have 95 movies. It's going to take us 3 months to get all of these movies!!! But we ordered the ENTIRE 1-4th seasons of Law and Order and the 14th season (Don't ask me what happened to the 5th-13th seasons). And all of the Pink Panther movies for Seymen :-)

JAPAN!!! HERE WE COME!

So, Seymen and I discussed it last night, and I think we are going to go to Japan for Maki's wedding in September. (As long as Seymen's lawyer says that it's OK for him to leave the country.) But we are going to have to do it up in Japan in September because Maki is planning her U.S. wedding in October, and Seymen won't be able to go since he'll be in Turkey serving in the army.

So!! With all these ODD contingencies, we've discussed it and decided that we are going to use Seymen's travel award from last year and go to Japan!! I suggested that we take some time off and go to the wedding and then explore Japan just the two of us!! How fun would that be?!?!?! Me and Seymen LOST in JAPAN! ;-) Anyway, Seymen agree that we should do that, spend time in Tokyo as well. We could even take the ferry from Fukuoka (Maki's home) to Pusan, Korea -- My birth place! WOW! :-) Now, all I have to do is convince Erin and Kevin that they need to come to JAPAN TOOOOOOO!!!!! :-))))

PUMPED UP!!

OK, I'm pumped up now. It took me from last Thursday until Monday night to get over my bad attitude about change and see my new position at work as an excellent opportunity with room to make me grow, and become more valuable in the Instructional Design field. They have announced a new job role at work that I was one of the selected employees to take over. I am now called an "Engagement Manager". Under this role, I will continue to do all the content management duties, but I will also take on project management duties, lead art and media production duties, and have a certain amount of responsiblity for selling (or "cultivating" our customers for more products) and ensure a profit for my team. This announcement of change really threw me for a loop. In addition, I was also taken off the Cisco team and put into the Custom team. I was pretty upset about it at first, but after MUCH MUCH MUCH discussion with my friends, Seymen, and my parents, I have come to the conclusion that this is really a good change, and a promotion. So I am taking on a new...BETTER attitude as of last night. And since this is a newly created position, I will be able to mold it to me, instead of me molding to it. (And just think how bad I would have felt if they DIDN'T pick me! So this is GOOD!!) <--Yeah still trying to convince myself fully...but I'm pretty much there.

Avoiding My Thoughts

Well, I'm so sad because the weekend is already over. We had some major announcements at work on Thursday and Friday, so I had much to ponder of the weekend. Actually, I was looking for ways to forget everything going on at work and just enjoy myself, relax and catch up on sleep. Friday night I was able to do just that! Unforuntately, I was so wrapped up in conversation with my tutor group friends that I completely lost track of time. :-) We ended up staying at Kathy's house until 12:30AM!!!! I had told Seymen to expect me back anytime between 9PM and 1AM! :-) Fortunately, I gave myself a large window of time, but after a tough week himself, Seymen was half asleep on the couch when I made it home. We then had to drag ourselves to my mom's house at 2AM! because I was so late! :-) But it worked out and we helped out my mom by staying over there for a night so it wasn't so bad. And we slept until 2PM to make up for the late night arrival. Well...I woke up at noon but laid in bed reading 1 of the 3 books that I bought last week.

My sister made it to my mom's just as we were leaving, so we headed out for lunch with her, and then headed home to "rest" so we'd be up for going out that night :-). I rested (finished my book) and then got up and ready to go out to the toad, where we hung out with a bunch of LMNK friends and AnG and Cathy...and where I had a little bit too much fun!

Today was a pretty slow day. I read the 2nd of the 3 three books, getting up to make lunch for me and Seymen, and then later making corned beef and cabbage for dinner. So now the Sunday night movie on TBS is over (Legally Blonde -- Amazing that I can watch that movie over and over and still love it. I think I've seen it at least 15 times!) and I'm sitting here wondering what I should do...if I should clean? Start my last book? go to bed? Watch more TV? I don't know...I just don't want to think about the stuff going on at work. I've already spent a few hours thinking about it, complaining to Seymen, sighing, moaning...until I could get distacted by the TV. Seymen is busy building us a server for my pictures!!! Yeah!!! and our music and all those important files that we have :-) Maybe I'll go bother him and try to talk him into something fun and exciting.

Social Life

I feel like I actually have a social life again! It's wonderful!! Last night after work, Jess and I went to East view mall so I could replenish my supply of makeup...After that and a couple of unnecessary purchases, I headed to the India house for dinner with my mom and Bill and our family friends. It was a really nice dinner with YUMMY indian food. I had the chance to talk to our family friends about the time they spent in Turkey, which was really cool :-) Their son Brandon was waiting on us and he would interject his thoughts in as he walked by ;-) hehee. They actually spent time in Bursa and Brandon and Mr. Murphy went skiing on Uludag Mountain (where Seymen and I drove up, skidding and almost died!) :-) When we were leaving Mr. Murphy said: "Iyi Aksamlar" (Good night) It was so strange that they know a little bit of Turkish too! :-)

This is entire weekend is going to be FUN FUN FUN for me. I have my LVA tutor group dinner. It's the first time we've all gotten together since October. With the holidays everyone was so busy and we had a hard time picking a time...but we are FINALLY going to get together again, as an ENTIRE GROUP! Very excited. I am contributing Creme Brule for dessert ;-) ehhehehe go figure.

Saturday, we're having an LMNK get together at the toad. Basically just inviting everyone we work with to come out and have a drink. Jess's boyfriend is up for the weekend, so we are making this a big shin-dig. I just hope that Seymen doesn't have to work so he can join in on the festivities.

So!!! I am happy! I have big plans for the weekend!!! And now it's lunch time!! Wahooo! And meetings from now until 4, so I don't have to sit in my cube :-) Life is good ;-)

Happy New Years!!!!

Hi everyone!!! I'm starting the year off on a bad foot by taking so long to post...but priorities come first...I finally finished the scrapbook for Seymen's parents. It took me a full 6 days to complete...but it's done now, and I must say, pretty cute ;-) but that's just my opinion...hehhee.

Anyway, my new years was great! (here's pictures) I had Friday off of work, so I spent all day scrapbooking. Jena came and got me out of the apartment around 3ish or 4, and we went shopping for our New Years Celebration. Afterwards, we met up with Seymen and went to dinner at Olgas. It was delicious!!! On New Years Eve, I woke up, continued scrapbooking until 12 noon, when Seymen made hair cut appointments for us both :-) It took a while there and afterwards, we picked up Jena and ate lunch at Shiki. Well, we didn't follow our original plan to meet and start cooking at 4, but it worked out. Jena and Trina played game cube with Seymen while he waited for his party to start.

After Seymen left, we had a niceeeeeeeeee ladies night, eating food, drinking wine, and playing Cranium. We had a surprise guest, Denise who showed up in time for dinner, dessert and a little playing. We had a good time, but started feeling lazy by 10, so we all kind of decided that we didn't really want to go out downtown. THen Seymen came back to the apartment just in the nick of time for the New Year...Instead we stayed at home watching TV and drinking champagne.

Anyway, the rest of the weekend is a bit of a blur for me. I seemed to have caught a cold. I went shopping with my sister and we met my mom for the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. (Excellent movie. Sad, but very moving) Other than that it has been "bed time" for me trying to recoop so I don't get more sick. Speaking of which...time for me to return...Nighty night all.
