New Couch! New Coffee Table!
Howdy ya'll. I'm much better tonight. I called the apt. office and scheduled a fumigation for next tuesday. Anyway, today during lunch we went and picked up my couch. Looking at it in the warehouse, it looked really small. Nothing that was too big to move etc. So, we arrived at Sofa Mart, with my friend Erin and Jeff. Erin drove her car around back and backed in so we could just load it up. Unfortunately, when the couch was right next to the car, it looked really large, and the car really small :-) But we managed to get it all loaded up, with even space for me to sit as well. Jeff helped us tie the couch and the car down with twine, and Erin and I took off for my apartment. The plan was for her and I to carry it upstairs ourselves because Jeff had to get back to work. So we arrived. I ran upstairs to get some scissors to cut the twine. When I arrived on the 3rd floor, there was a guy painting the outside area. On my way back downstairs, I decided that I should tell him that I was moving the couch so we might be in his way. So I did. And he was so sweet, and responds: "Uhh...Yo no hablo ingles!". Let me just tell you...after 8-10 years of spanish (from 7th grade through HS, an exchange program in Spain, and through college) for the life of me, I couldn't remember the word for couch or chair. All I could think of was turkish words (go figure...whenever I'm in Turkish class if I don't know the answer I translate it to Spanish!). I tried to say something, I have no idea what I said...I tried pointing...and he goes: "Mi amigo esta aqui? Quieres hablar con el?" (Or something like that...That's the best I can translate). I said: "No...Esta bien...Nevermind. :-)"
So I walk back downstairs, and we start cutting the string. The little mexican painters friend walked past us then and goes: "Hey ladies! Do you want some help with that?" I told him, sure if he WANTED to :-) And he said, well he didn't WANT to but he would lend a hand anyway :-) So we said: "SUREEE!". He goes: "Pedro (I don't remember his name)! Vengas Aqui!" And the little painter dude came running down the stairs. So the guys took the couch and Erin and I grabbed the cusions and pillows. When I turned around the guys had already started up the stairs...and the cute little painter dude was going first, facing up, with the couch on his back :-) They did it pretty quickly, and only had trouble twice. THey were so nice and brought right into my apartment right where I wanted it!
So when they were done, Erin and I said: "Thank You! Muchos Gracias!!". Then I decided I should offer them something. THe only thing I had was Coke. I asked if they wanted a drink. The english speaking painter dude said no thanks and then asked the spanish speaking one. THe little dude was so cute! His face lit up and spoke some spanish and goes: "Coke?! Si!". So I gave him 2 :-)
Anyway...in a long round about way, I got my couch. After dinner in Elgin at Heidi's I stopped by Super Target and bought my coffee table (that was on sale last weekend and I took a rain check for..thank god!). I put it together when I got home and organized the furinture and took pics! So here they are! :-)
You can't really see it, but I put the slipcover on the love seat, and it goes perfectly with the couch I think!

Here's an updated picture of my dining room now that I have furniture.

And here's my bedroom with an actual bed and nightstand! Unfortunately, I haven't had time to decorate the walls yet...Hopefully tomorrow night after meeting with my new car/apt. insurance guy.
